Re: Cancel Haiti's Debt petition

I actually think it angers me that so much is being spent, and every website has a gurning "help haiti" banner on it.
They didn't live the life of luxury before... Nobody gave a shit.
Now, because you can get some cheap brownie points, it's awesome to donate/help, yeah! WE'RE AWESOME! HELPING, WOO!

If all those people had died in Haiti over the space of a year, nobody here would have cared.
Due to there being an epic Earthquake and it being quick, they do.

Save your cash, or give it to UK based charities that actually help people in our country.

Your points could be used as an argument to give to charities that help poorer countries all the year round, rather than just when there is a disaster like this. Your leap to "therefore give them fuck all" is just that - a leap of logic.

Re: Cancel Haiti's Debt petition

It's just a shame that there will never be a situation that will allow the same bandwagon jumpers to donate to a charity based in the UK, helping people IN the UK.
I'm selfish. The only country I care for is the one I live in.

Think you'll find that also helps children in third world countries as well as the UK.

If you're selfish, why give to charity at all?

Nah you're not a dick. The dicks are the celebs who donate a few thousand or so knowing full well that the press they get will earn them as much or more. Button gave a few thousand and made sure we all knew about it too. Button must be worth £20M. So to big yourself up in the press but not have the decency to give a decent amount makes him a dick.

Brad and Jolie gave a million dollars which sounds like a lot to us but that's peanuts to what they are currently worth AND between them and their companies they have about 30 odd movies being worked on at the moment. Ker-ching!
